Meditation

The Meditation practices we offer at The Irish Hanmi Buddhist School are those of the Hanmi Esoteric School of Buddhism. These ancient practices are based on the use of what are called the Three Mysteries” which are, Mantra, Mudra and Visualisation.

Mantra: A mantra is a phrase that you repeat to yourself silently while meditating. The mantras we use are written in the ancient language, Sanskrit, but are simple to learn. By repeating a mantra whilst meditating the part of the brain which controls speech is kept occupied.

Mudra: A Mudra is a body position. The mudras we use are simple hand positions which are easy and comfortable to hold. All of our meditations are done sitting in a chair so you do not need to sit cross legged, or be physically fit to do them. By holding a mudra the body is kept occupied.

Visualisation: Visualisation is the practice of “seeing” an image or a scene in your mind. In this form of meditation you are guided through a series of visualisations, however do not worry if you find it difficult to see an image in your mind, just thinking about it is enough to keep the mind occupied.

The ancient Masters of this school found that by using the Three Mysteries of Mantra, Mudra and Visualisation together, it unlocked the ability to enter into a deeper meditative state, which can have a powerful healing effect if used regularly. These techniques are suitable for the beginner and experienced meditator. .
